- High school meets are usually on Saturdays.
- Middle school meets are on Tuesdays or Thursdays (events start at around 4 pm)
- Club Meets: We may include 1 or 2 “Club” meets (AAU or USATF) at the end of the season if we need to fill out our schedule. These meets would include both MS and HS teams and are usually held on a Saturday
Parent Involvement & Expectations:
HHA is a parent run organization. We cannot do what we do without our parents. There are a number of ways you can get involved:
- The first is to know the schedule for practices and meets. Having your athlete on time and ready for practice is critical. Also, it is critical that you notify your coach in advance if your athlete has a conflict and cannot make practice or a meet.
- At practices, we may need parents to assist with timing, raking pits, shagging discus and shots, or as an Assistant Coach. Not only does this help the coaches out tremendously, but it gets you , the parent, involved in what your athlete is doing.
- If you competed in Track and Field in high school or college, you might consider coaching in one of the many areas or age groups. Talk to Coach Reeves if you are interested in coaching.
- At meets, you may also be called upon to help with raking pits, shagging discus and shots, and setting up hurdles.
- Another great way to help the coaches is to be in charge of setting up and taking down the team tent at meets.
- At the State Track meet in April, we will be asking parents to help the meet host run certain events at the meet - like raking jumps pits or measuring discus throws.
Age/Grade Requirements:
HHA has been providing options for kids between the ages of 8 and 18 for all of its sports for many years. For athletes on the younger end of this spectrum, HHA coaches will evaluate an athlete’s readiness for the weekly training and the meet competitions and will make a determination of either Competitive, Developmental, or Not Ready.
For the State Meet, there will no longer be age-based divisions. The divisions will be grade based. The division format will change to the following:
Varsity – Grades 9-12 with typical ages ranges from 14-18
Jr Varsity – Grades 9-11 with typical ages ranges from 14-17
7th-8th Grade – Typical ages range from 12-14*
5th-6th Grade – Typical ages range from 10-12
*If you have a 14 yr old that competes as a Freshman, that counts towards their 4 years of HS eligibility. They may compete as an 8th grader even if they are doing 9th grade academics - it's a parental choice.
Typical Events at a Meet:
- 800 M, 1200 M, 1600 M (HS), 2400 M, and 3200 M (HS)
- 100/110 M and 300 M hurdles
